Why prepare before a ski trip?

A ski vacation is a big investment. Lift tickets, lodging and travel add up fast, and nobody wants to spend the first two days just remembering how to stop. Practicing before you go means:

  • less time on the bunny slope and more time on the runs you came for
  • more control and confidence from your first morning
  • less fatigue, because your body already knows the movements
  • a better trip for everyone, especially if you ski with kids

Where to learn to ski if you’ve never skied

If this will be your first ski trip, private beginner lessons are the best place to start. Your instructor shows you how to stand, balance, slow down, stop and turn, one step at a time. You learn on real skis and real boots, on our beginner ski and snowboard simulator, without the pressure of a crowded slope.

Beginner lessons are available for children from age 3 and for adults:

  • 1 participant: 60-minute private lesson, $135
  • 2 participants: 90-minute private lesson, $200
  • 4- and 8-lesson packages, valid for 3 months, a good fit if your trip is a few weeks away

For experienced skiers and snowboarders

If you already ski, you don’t need to start over. Use our advanced ski simulator to work on carving, edge control, body position and rhythm, run after run. Independent training sessions without an instructor are available for ages 6 and up, with a simulator operator present. It’s a simple way to get trip-ready in a few sessions instead of on the mountain.

How to plan your training

  • 6 to 8 weeks before your trip: start a lesson package if you’re a beginner.
  • 2 to 4 weeks before: experienced skiers can book a few training sessions to warm up.
  • The week before: one last session to feel confident.

All sessions are by appointment. Book online, arrive about 5 minutes early to sign the waiver, and wear long ski socks and athletic clothing. All equipment is provided at no extra cost, but you can bring your own boots and helmet.

What to pack for your first ski trip

Once your skills are ready, make sure your gear is too. A simple checklist for a beginner’s first ski vacation:

  • waterproof ski jacket and pants
  • thermal base layers, not cotton
  • long ski socks, one pair per day
  • waterproof gloves or mittens
  • goggles and a warm hat (most resorts rent helmets)
  • sunscreen and lip balm, because sun on snow is stronger than you think

Rent skis, boots and a helmet at the resort for your first trip. Practicing in ski boots at our studio helps you know what fits and feels right before you get there.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead of my ski trip should I start?

Beginners do best starting 6 to 8 weeks before the trip, with a 4- or 8-lesson package. Experienced skiers usually need only a few sessions in the last 2 to 4 weeks.

Will practicing on a simulator help on a real mountain?

Yes. You practice the same movements you use on snow: balance, stopping, turning and edge control. That’s why your first runs on the mountain feel familiar instead of new.

Can my whole family prepare together?

Yes. Lessons for two participants are 90 minutes, and family members can book back-to-back sessions.

Do I need my own equipment?

No. We provide everything you need at no extra cost.
