Snowboard Lessons near Chicago, IL
Looking for snowboard lessons near Chicago? Snowlike Studio is a snowboard and ski training studio in Schaumburg, about 30 to 45 minutes from most Chicago neighborhoods, depending on traffic. You learn on a snowboard simulator with an instructor beside you, so you can practice the basics before you ever get to a ski hill.
We are located in Schaumburg only, at 636 Remington Rd, Unit C. Riders come to us from the city and from suburbs all over Chicagoland.
Learn to snowboard before you go to the mountain
Most people learn to snowboard on a cold, crowded slope, falling over and over while they try to figure out what to do with their feet. It works, eventually, but it can take a whole day just to stand up and slide a few feet. In our studio, you learn the same basics in a calm, warm space:
- how to stand on the board and find your stance (regular or goofy)
- how to balance with your weight centered
- how to get up after a fall, which you will do a lot at first
- how to control your speed and stop on your heel edge
- how to start linking your first turns
When you reach the mountain, you already know what your body should do. That means more riding and less sitting in the snow.
Who our snowboard lessons are for
- Complete beginners who have never been on a snowboard
- Skiers who want to switch and try snowboarding
- Teens getting ready for a school trip or ski club season
- Adults who want private lessons without a group watching
- Riders with experience who want to clean up their technique before a trip
Every lesson is private, with an instructor beside you for the whole session. The pace is set by you.

Watch a real beginner lesson
Here’s part two of our beginner snowboard lesson series, filmed in our studio. It shows the kind of drills you’ll practice in your first lessons.
How many lessons do you need?
It depends on your balance, fitness and how often you train. Many beginners feel comfortable after 4 to 8 lessons. The first one or two lessons are usually the hardest part. After that, most riders progress quickly. If you have a trip coming up, start 6 to 8 weeks before so you have time to practice between lessons.
Already ride? Get trip-ready
If you snowboard already, a few sessions before the season help you warm up your legs, fix habits like leaning back, and work on cleaner turns. Ask about training on our advanced simulator. Independent training sessions are available for ages 6 and up.
What to bring
- Long ski socks and comfortable athletic clothing
- Your own snowboard boots and helmet if you have them (optional)
- That’s it. Snowboards, boots and all other equipment are provided at no extra cost.
Arrive about 5 minutes early to sign the waiver. A parent or guardian signs for riders under 18.

Frequently asked questions
Is snowboarding harder to learn than skiing?
Snowboarding usually feels harder for the first few lessons because both feet are on one board and you fall more at the start. Once you can balance and use your edges, progress is often fast.
Do I need to know how to ski first?
No. Many of our snowboard students have never skied.
Can I learn snowboarding as an adult?
Yes. Our private lessons are designed for adults too, and the pace is set by you.
Is the simulator like real snow?
You ride a real snowboard on a moving training surface and practice the same movements you use on snow: balance, edging, stopping and turning. It’s the best way to learn the basics before your first day on the mountain.
