Learn to snowboard before the trip, not during it

Most teens learn to snowboard the hard way: a full day of falling on a cold slope while their friends are already riding. It doesn’t have to be like that. In a private snowboard lesson, an instructor helps you:

  • find your stance and balance on the board
  • learn how to get up after a fall
  • control your speed and stop
  • start linking your first turns

On the slope, you’ll already know what to do, so you can spend your time riding with friends instead of sitting in the snow. See our snowboard lessons.

Prefer skiing?

Ski lessons work the same way. You start on our beginner simulator with real skis and real boots and learn to balance, stop and turn at your own pace. Read more about our ski lessons.

Lesson options and prices

Every lesson is private, with an instructor beside you the entire time:

  • 1 participant: 60-minute lesson, $135
  • 2 participants: 90-minute lesson, $200, a good choice for two friends or siblings doing the same sport at a similar level
  • 4- and 8-lesson packages, valid for 3 months

Already ride or ski?

If you already ski or snowboard and want to get better, our advanced simulator lets you work on carving, edge control and technique run after run. Independent training sessions are available for ages 6 and up. It’s a good way to stay sharp between trips, or before ski club season starts.

What to bring

  • Long ski socks and comfortable athletic clothing
  • Your own boots or helmet if you have them (optional)
  • Everything else, including skis, snowboards and boots, is provided at no extra cost

Plan to arrive about 5 minutes early so a parent or guardian can sign the waiver for students under 18.

Getting ready for ski club or a school trip

Many North Shore teens get their first taste of skiing on a ski club bus or a school trip to a hill in Wisconsin or Michigan. These trips are fun, but there is usually not much time for lessons once you arrive. A few sessions with us before the season help you:

  • skip the beginner area sooner and ride with your friends
  • know how to fall safely and get up on your own
  • feel comfortable getting on and off the slope, instead of stressing about it
  • understand basic slope etiquette and safety

If your school or club has a trip coming up, plan your lessons for the weeks before it. Parents can book online in a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Is snowboarding harder to learn than skiing?

Snowboarding usually feels harder in the first few lessons because of balance and falling, then gets easier quickly. Skiing feels easier at first. Both can be learned in a few lessons with an instructor.

Can two friends take a lesson together?

Yes. A 90-minute lesson for two participants works well when both do the same sport and are at a similar level.

How many lessons before a school ski trip?

Many beginners feel comfortable after 4 to 8 lessons. Even 2 or 3 lessons before the trip make a big difference on the first day.

Can a parent book online for a teen?

Yes. Parents can book and pay online, and sign the waiver when they arrive.
